What Members Thought

I was having a bad week and reading this book cheered me up.
I like how everyone is allowed to state their own opinion and be heard and understood. It's good they were able to remember that sometimes a bad situations wound up turning into a fun situation. What I liked best was all Squirrel's friends rallying around him and making a fun game of helping him gather up all the nuts he dropped and lost.

It's a bad day.![]()
Poor little Squirrel.
A really bad day.
An unimaginably bad day.
Little Squirrel tripped and lost all of his acorns in the river. It's the worst day in his life.
But then he bumps into his friend Rabbit, who decides to help.
I have an idea. My mom taught me a special trick to do when I'm upset.Rabbit grabs their other friends to help Squirrel during this ...more

MY THOUGHTS
Sometimes we think things are worse than they really are. Poor little fuzzy Squirrel was gathering acorns for winter when he didn't see the tree limb and tripped. All his hard work fell to the ground. His acorns fell and went rolling into the river leaving him with no acorns. He feels like the world has fallen apart and is extremely upset, crying and just doesn't know what to do. Squirrel's friend, Rabbit hopes he can he help with a solution. Hopefully Rabbit's solution can help anyo ...more

OMG! I think that I'm obsessed with squirrels! Anyway, apart from some beautiful illustrations which capture all of the animals perfectly, this book helps teach kids some valuable lessons.
The squirrel loses his nuts and gets upset, but all of his friends help to remind him that life isn't all bad and that he can still have friends and still have fun!
5 Stars! Loved it! ...more

A wonderful story-line and amazing illustrations with just a touch of humor to make the reader laugh and then feel sad about Squirrel's predicament, and about how Squirrel would be feeling at that moment. Is she angry? Is she sad? Or is she just disappointed with herself? She was running along so splendidly when oops, something happened that seemed to turn her world up-side-down. ONE TO TEN: SQUIRREL'S BAD DAY by Carole P. Roman has that quality that appeals to children and makes them think as

Squirrel's day began well but soon it went all wrong. He's frustrated and unhappy. Squirrel's friend Rabbit tries to help him feel better. Rabbit gives Squirrel and their friends a way to find out how bad the situation is. They decide their are many ways to look at what's happened.
Well written and fun characters make this book so sweet. I love the idea of giving a child a way to release their frustration. It's really a fun way to defuse any child's anger. This is one you need in your library.

This is a cute book. And one that teaches that sometimes having a bad day isn't as bad as you think it is.
I love the way Carole Roman puts having a bad day in perspective with animals who could also be having bad days. To Squirrel, his bad day is losing all his acorns. Rabbit teaches him how to rate the mishap from 0ne to ten. Rabbit also points out how other animals could rate their days also, and to improve upon it (fox had a bad day skating and took it upon himself to become a better skater). ...more

When people rush accidents can happen. That is exactly what happened to the squirrel when she lost all her acorns into the river below. Upset and having a bad day her good friend the rabbit tries to calm her down and also explains how not to be so upset. I have a solution that my mom taught me. Rate the problem from one to ten. Once you give it some thought you will see it is not that bad and then you can move on.

I thought this book was surprising to be honest. I like how subtle it was at showing kids how to evaluate the seriousness of any situation they could be going through, and using a scaling system to figure it out. My nieces enjoyed it very much and the illustrations were beautiful. They even did a book report on it, (without me even knowing what they were doing!) And have entered it into their schools reading list initiative, which I thought as great as well. I look forward to reading more!

Adorable. The illustration are beautifully done and the story itself was utterly enjoyable. I smiled while reading the whole thing, and even thought it's meant for kids it brought some much needed perspective to my not so young anymore self.

My daughters and I enjoyed reading, "One to Ten: Squirrel's Bad Day" by Carole P. Roman. The story begins with Squirrel dropping acorns and losing them into the water. His friend explains to him that it might not be all that bad. He explains a rating scale and all the forest friends weigh in on their mishaps and misfortunes and what number each might give the unfortunate event. In the end, squirrel learns that losing the acorns isn't all that bad after all and his friends have fun helping him ga

This cute little story book is by Carole P Roman, a well established children's book author. I have read many of her books but this one was a bit of a departure. That's not a bad thing!
When I first received this book I thought that it was a normal counting book, to teach counting. I was very wrong! What this really is about is feelings and how a child can handle feelings. The method used is simple and one we could use everyday.
