After we read this book my daughter had so many wonderful questions. I love how Roman's books educate and also inspire. My daughter started making up desserts and the ingredients they had just like in the book. This is probably one of my favorites in this fantastic series. There's a ton of information and really wonderful details. Another winner.

“If You Were Me and Lived in Egypt” by Carole P. Roman, is the story about one of the oldest countries on Earth, located in both continents of Africa and Asia. The capital, Cairo, was built on the Nile River, and is the largest city of the Middle East.
Your name would have been Youseff, Salma, or Fatima if you were the youngest sister. Calling “Ummi” to your mom and “Baba” to your dad. The currency that is used is the Egyptian pound.

Carole Roman has done it again with another learning about countries book. This one is on Egypt. I really like how she brings in simple words of the language they use while asking the child if he understands the word by using the illustration. Kids a sponges when something interesting as these books are and they learn about what living in another country is like.

As with all of her books from this series, she follows a general format which includes: city capital, name for parents, names for children, money used, foods eaten, places to visit, school name, holidays.

I am a big fan of the “If You Were Me and Lived in ...” series by Carole Roman. They are a valuable addition to the materials available for multicultural studies at the elementary school level. In general, this book is a solid addition to that library, yet it is unfortunate that it contains a very serious factual flaw.

"If You Were Me And Lived In ... Egypt" is a great book for kids to learn about different cultures around the world. This book is fun to read and packed full of information on Egypt, even back to Ancient Egypt times, which came in very useful for a research report resource for my daughter. There are pronunciation helps throughout the story as well as a pronunciation guide at the back of the book with definitions for different words. The pictures are bright, colorful and are fun to look at and go
