This is the newest book in Ms. Roman's series. They are informative books with lessons to learn. Not just for children, but for adults also. You're never too old to learn. Fill that brain up with good information. In Ms. Roman's books you get to learn about customs and cultures. You get to see things through the eyes of a young person and get to know what their lives are like in their country.

In this book, first we get a picture of what Israel looks like along with where the capital is located. Certain words have the pronunciation in parenthesis. When living in Israel you call the country, State of Israel or Medinat Israel. Certain faiths see Israel as a Holy Land. Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world. Back in 1538AD, the city was divided into 4 neighborhoods, Christian, Armenian, Muslim and Jewish. Every year many tourists visit the city. Shopping is done in an open air market known as the Shouk (Shook). You would buy things like hallav and lechem, milk and bread. They would be bought with the shekel. This is the currency used. You might go to the Dead Sea or Salt Sea the lowest spot on earth, 1371 feet below sea level. Dead Sea is appropriate since nothing can live in the salty water. The story goes on to tell how they lives, names they are called, foods they eat and sports they play. In the spring, there is a celebration where children dress up to celebrate Queen Esther. It is called the celebration of Purim. I found it very interesting that you read and write from the right side to the left and why. At the end of the book, there is a pronunciation guide of the different words used in the book. It's not only fun to learn about different countries and cultures but it is educational. Get some of Ms. Roman;s IF YOU WERE ME AND LIVED IN... books and follow the countries and have fun while learning.

Amazing read! In this new attention grabber there is a lot to learn about Israel and a marvelous place called Jerusalem; one of the oldest cities in the world. Children can actually learn about the language and their cultures as they read this very informative book.

f you lived in Israel you would live in the Middle East on the Southwestern shore of the Mediterranean. Many people live in Jerusalem it is one of the oldest cities in the world
Girls common names might be Maya or Shira and Yosef or Noah if you were a boy.Instead of mommy you would say Ima and Abba would be your daddy.
When entertaining friends or visitors you might want to take them to the Dead Sea, it is the lowest spot in earth that can be reached by car or bus.

On this trip, we will be traveling to Israel. Israel is on the Mediterranean Sea. Many believe Israel if a very holy land. The city of Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world. We can explore and try new foods. What fun we'll have.

This is part of a set of books that I think adults and children alike should either own or at least read.
They teach so much of the world around us.

This one is on Israel: its history and culture, the food and dress of the country through the eyes of a child. What more is needed than a child's view teaching another child, and adults for that matter. I think the schools should all have copies of these books. Just like the other books in her series, Carole informs the readers of how to pronounce popular names, what foods may be preferred, popular sports or activities, and different ways of dress.
