Another great installment into the "If You Were Me and Lived in..." series. I love that Roman has now moved on to visiting historical times. My daughter is getting such a great education reading these books. This one kept her attention from the beginning and it inspired great questions.

Colonial America was certainly an interesting time!![]()
They were traveling to a land where colonies of people like them were able to settle in homes and worship the way they wanted.
This lovely little book describes what life was like when America was first settled.
It starts with why the colonials left England and the typical pathway that someone would take to arrive in America.
From there, your family would need to find somewhere to live.
Your father and uncle scouted to find a good...more

My daughters and I enjoyed reading this book together. It was fun to include it in our homeschool reading. We like the way the author includes the reader into the story by including things such as, if you were a boy you might have been called Comfort or Abraham, and if you were a girl you might have been called or Patience or Mercy.
I liked the back of the book with the glossary of terms as well as an educational piece about a few of the original founders/people of America, including William Penn ...more

Awesome!! I loved this wonderful children's story bringing back Colonial America. That was London England before the paved highways, tall buildings, street lights, and vehicles. Traveling to the New World would have been a struggle, especially crossing the ocean through rough storms.
With, IF YOU WERE ME AND LIVED IN...COLONIAL AMERICA, by Carole P. Roman, children can learn first hand about the hard life the pilgrims went through, and about the first Thanksgiving, and what the pilgrims had to ...more

“If You Were Me and Lived in…Colonial America” by Carole P. Roman, is about living in London. England was a Catholic country until King Henry VIII created the Church of England. Many ran away to the Netherlands when they felt wronged for not following. From there you would have to sail to the New World on The Mayflower and The Speedwell, arriving in Plymouth, New England in very bad winter. I received this book from the author for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are entirely my own.
Filled with a lot more history than the previous books in this series, If You Were Me and Lived in...Colonial America covers everything from the religious backgrounds of England, why the Puritans left for America, as well as how they survived life in the new colony.
The pictures are extremely well done and capture the emotions and atmosphere very well and the writing is engaging and ...more

This new book gives children a look at everyday living in colonial America. It discusses the food they eat and the way they dress. All the information you could ask for is right here. It's never too early to start sharing these kinds of books with children. Books like these contain so much good stuff, they'll enjoy each read.

Carole Roman makes it interesting learning about Colonial America. She brings to life how people came here and how they lived the first years in the new world--their struggles as well as their achievements.
Carole also teaches about the important people of the time like Captain John Smith and Pocahontas as well as a glossary at the end of the book to help young people learn new worlds.
These books would be great in the classroom as well as in the home. A great book.

Although the title indicates that the topic is colonial America, the content is almost totally confined to the experiences of the people now referred to as “the Pilgrims” and their colony in what is now New England. The experiences described are those of Plymouth Colony over the first few years of its existence. Other colonies are only indirectly mentioned, when paragraph-length biographies of Peter Minuit, William Penn and Captain John Smith are given at the end.
