My daughters and I received a set of the "If You Were Me and Lived In..." books, and the one about Italy was the first one I wanted to read because my ancestors were from Italy. This book is a great educational resource for children, and is excellent for homeschooling. I had a lot of trouble teaching my kids history this past year because they think it's totally boring. Yet, my kids actually enjoyed this book! It was fun and easy to read. It puts the kids in the shoes of another child living in

Carole Roman has a knack of bringing the world to our children's feet.
This time it's Italy and Carole has a way of combining the history of the land and the modern way of living. And all the while teaching a bit of the Italian language as it relates to family, food and every day life. My hat's off to you, Carole, for doing a wonderful way of teaching children about the world they live in.

Once again the very talented Carole P. Roman has given us another country to learn about. She has written about many countries and the way they live along with her CAPTAIN NO BEARD books. Her books are colorfully illustrated by Kelsea Wierenga.
In this wonderful book about Italy, there is a globe to show where Italy is and there is also a large shape of what Italy looks like. Ms. Roman takes the reader to the Capital of Italy which is Rome. Here we see amazing architecture which goes back in his ...more

This great book, IF YOU WERE ME AND LIVED IN ... ITALY, not only has wonderful illustrations, but also can help teach children the remarkable language of the Italian people, and the culture of this wonderful country. I love the astonishing pronunciation guide that breaks down each word, along with the pictures and definition of what each word means. Plus the map that shows the shape of and where that great country is in our big wide wonderful world. Carole P. Roman weaved together something mar ...more

This book was provided to me in return for an honest, unbiased review.
The book is part of a series that introduces young children to the geography and culture of different countries around the world. As with other books in the series, readers are provided with simply drawn maps and multicultural images of families. They discover tidbits about the history, customs, food, holidays, public places and currency.

“If You Were Me and Lived in… Italy” by Carole P. Roman, is about a country located in the southern part of Europe, also called lo Stivale (lo stee-val-e) or “the boot” because the country has the shape of one. The Capital city is Rome (Ro-m-a) which was founded in the year 753 BC and that is the only city that has another country inside it, The Catholic (Cath-o-lic), and its capital Vatican City. Also in Rome, you will see the Coliseum (Col-es-s ...more

Ms. Roman is the author of many “If you were me and lived in” and she introduce her readers to foreign countries and things children would find interesting about them. She is talking about Italy in her latest book and it is extremely enjoyable.
We are informed that Rome being the capital also has the largest amphitheater, which is also known as the coliseum. It has sat between 50,000 to 80,000 for public events and before that soldiers had fought there.

I was lucky enough to visit Italy in 2000. So, I thought it would be interesting to read this book about Italy from a kid's perspective.
I had to smile at the author's dedication where she thanks the pizza place for help. Pizza is so different tasting in Italy but good none-the-less. Of course, as with all of the author's books, she mentions different foods one might eat. There are a lot of them in this book.

I received this book from the author/publisher for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are entirely my own.
By now, I am a huge fan of Carole's books. Her excellent writing style combined with her heart to teach children about the different cultures has produced some great books and this one does not disappoint. We're off to Italy! In this book we will learn all about Italy. It's a very old country with a proud heritage. Their history is rich and interesting. Let's go!
I have said before and will continue to say how much I love this series. It gives every child a chance to "travel" to far off places. I love that history is included in these books. Children get curious right from the first page. This series should be part of your child's library. What a perfect way to spend time with your child.
