They're about to leave their island and sail off into the great big ocean...only things don't exactly go to plan.
"Mongo," he called back, "there is no ship yond

This was the first book of the author's (not the only one) I'd read to my son several months back. The way the imaginary world is written is done really well (and draws you in immediately) from the child's point of view, to the extent you don't even realize it at first that it is a child's imagination narrating the storyline, not until the very end, which is tied up very neatly. The illustrations are done very well with beautiful colors. The language and dialogue is very down to earth, staying a ...more

Captain No Beard and his mates, Mongo, Linus, Fribbit and Hallie are off on an adventure. They are all aboard his ship, the Flying Dragon. While Captain No Beard shouts orders to his crew, a bad storm blows in. Prepared as always Captain No Beard takes it all in stride until he sees her. It couldn't be! Could it? They'll have to investigate.

Carole P. Roman has a fantastic start to a series of books children of all ages will love. I especially enjoy the fact these books aren't for either boys or

Captain No Beard is a delightful story for girls and boys alike. As a mother, I love how the author so perfectly captures the fantasy world of our little ones, even including a moment of motherly level-headedness towards the end. The illustrations are beautiful, colorful and detailed enough to hold my 5 year old's attention.

I had this book in my house for about a week before my son finally relented to reading it. It seems he was worried a pirate book would be scary! Luckily for both of us, Capta

Pretending to be a pirate is something that nearly all children do at some time in their life. The lure of sailing the seven seas in search of booty and treasure is a powerful one; it can be seen in the movies, amusement parks, books and commercials for cereals.
This book is about one such adventure embarked upon by Captain No Beard (Alexander) and his First Mate Hallie. Accompanied by a loyal crew of animals, they sail their ship through a storm and the near loss of the First Mate falling overbo

What an imagination Alexander has--his bed becomes the Flying Dragon, Hallie, his first mate and all the stuffed toys are his crew. They set sail to go out to find treasure and run into a storm and finally a "mermaid" (mom).

Anyone who reads this books can see what an imagination can bring you--no TV, no computer games can do that. I wish more kids could read this kind of book and then make up things (I did as a child--cowboys and Indians, making my own bow with a stick and string, making a castl
