It was a bit of a slog until the last 100 pages, when it really picked up -- ever since Amina landed on the shores of the magical land ruled by the feathered 'court'. Descriptions of the otherwordly beings and natural elements on that island were a delight to read, stretching my imagination farther than it usually goes. I think this will be my book of the year. Absolutely amazing! I finished it and started it over again with my partner immediately. The audio narration is wonderful. I love reading about an adventurous mother my age who is still doing amazing things despite her bad knee. I am so excited for the next book! I love all of the characters and the setting.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book (and the author's note about her historical research).
