YES. All my people, YES, this book.

Words. I can't. Amazing. Awful. Dare I say, . . . powerful.

So, take everything you know about history. Everything you know about equality. Everything you think you know about humanity. Now flip it. Hard to do? Read this book instead.

[Movie voiceover] In a world where women are dominant, one man seeks the hidden truth behind 5000 years of civilization. No, wait.
[MV] In a world familiar, a historic evolutionary trait is changing the world. No, no, uh maybe.

This had strong characters and a style that made it easy to turn pages, but everyone was so awful it was hard to keep picking it up. I'm glad I hang out with more decent folks, but every now and again it's fun to dip into these "everyone is a mobster" kind of books. This was a SF version which made it more fun. I like the role reversals, with women in power behaving just the same way guys do in the action genre versions of this book. And the archeology was witty. ...more

Imagine a world turned upside down; women in control and the men subservient. The women gained control because an electrical generator developed within them. They found they could throw sparks and electrocute whom ever they wanted.

Teenage girls begin developing this electronic power and flip how things exist. This reflects on how we view power and sexuality in our world today.

Content warnings for graphic violence including sexual violence, but this was brilliant. It's the first book I've read this year that I've not struggled to keep going with.

I loved the excerpts from the audioguide too.

After seeing that this book was endorsed by Margaret Atwood, I wanted to read it even more. That said, it fell short of my expectations. While the idea of the novel is fascinating, the execution of the story and the characters were so disjointed and uninteresting. A cynical read that ended up not being very rewarding.

Absolutely amazing! The story itself is great, but the letters that frame the narrative really drive the point home.
