Some of these essays were thoughtful. And meaningful. And some were about Twilight and 50 Shades and reality TV.

I am glad I read the book.

I wanted to like this, I really did but I just could not get through it past the third 'chapter' I appreciate what the author was trying to do, but it's just not the book for me.
That being said, I really enjoyed the first introduction to the book, I was all pumped up from that, I like how she presented her viewpoint and how it related to changing social norms and expectations. I could not put this book down. Gay's writing is so smart and honest, by turns hilarious and devastating, in discussing her experiences with intersectional feminism, criticism of popular media, and assessment and exploration of the current sociopolitical climate. This book was both affirming, and also sometimes uncomfortable and challenging, and so much more than I was expecting it to be, I was so sad to finish it.
