Each time i read one of her books, i'm completely captivated and drawn in, and Shiver was no different. It was incredibly well written. I liked Maggie's take on werewolves and how she connected their changing to the weather. It was unique and wasn't something i'd read before. Wonderful.

Hm. How to describe my feelings for Shiver. In short, it was an entertaining, easy read that had some poetic essence and heart-pounding moments, but lacked something that made me love it.

To start things off, I disliked Grace a bit. It’s hard to enjoy a book, no matter how wonderful the love interest, if your protagonist is a pain in your ass. To start things off, I disliked Grace a bit. It’s hard to enjoy a book, no matter how wonderful the love interest, if your protagonist is a pain in your ass. Grace, although cute and pretty intelligent, seemed like a little girl in comparison with who she dealt with. The relationship she had with her parents didn’t really strike me as odd, as even I don’t have a wonderful connection with my own but it doesn’t take over most of my life. She also seemed plain to me the reader, but was like freaking Aphrodite to Sam. I don’t know – maybe she just reminded me too much of Bella Swan.

I liked how Stiefvater gave us a break from Grace’s boring mind to give way to the charming, all-male Sam Roth, who brightened up this story like the sunshine he can’t touch. I loved the twist on werewolves, and the desperate way Sam fought for humanity when he could’ve easily given up like his many pack members. The ending was a bit too frustrating for me, though, because I’d hoped that Grace could’ve used it as an opening for the Linger, which sounds like another version of Shiver but with another two main characters.

The plot was ultimately what deserved this book a three-four stars. I mean, how long can you go on about trying to stay in your true form because you love somebody? I like back stories and funny interruptions, not continuous explanations for somebody’s feelings. The way Grace had been interesting, though, was her ability to be somewhat wolf, and the confusion throughout the story concerning why she hadn’t changed. Still, like I said, that can only take interest so far.

I’ve read Lament, Stiefvater’s adaptation on faerie lore, and had to put it down. I’m glad that she learned to keep it more modern and realistic in this paranormal-romance, but still, I’m ultimately disappointed that I didn’t like this one as much as others have.
