This book made me feel mentally deficient. It was definitely written at a time (30 years ago?) where it's obvious that people were educated to read Latin. I know this had to be true. I used to read old brownish chapter books written in the 1950s about teenagers flirting with each other in Latin. It happened! But I never learned Latin. So passages of this book are lost on me. Most likely the most important Latin sentence was lost--it's about a rose, right? The title is about a ROSE, right? In all ...more
