Other books, e.g., Charles Murray's Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010, have explored the diminishing fortunes of the white working and middle class in an abstract way. What's unique about Zaitchik's approach is that he mingles with Trump supporters at their homes, at VFW halls, at Trump rallies and just lets them talk.
