From 2001 to 2002, I lived in Primorski Krai, in the Russian Far East just 10 kilometers from the border with China, as a Peace Corps volunteer. As a person who spends time in grizzly country, I liked this book for what is said about how animals and people can co-exist. The "contract" between the two cultures is broken in this book with predictably bad results on both sides. I want to follow up this reading with two books cited in the text, Dersu the Trapper by V.K. Ars'nev and The Sheltering Desert by Hanna Martin. I may also follow up with a donation to the tiger outfit, Inspection Tiger/Tigris Foundation, highlighted in the book. Mayb
