When I first started working at my current job I had a long commute and ten hours of time sitting at a desk that I needed to fill with something other than the noises of computer keys and staplers clicking throughout the night. I went hard into the world of Podcasts and especially became a fan of Dan Carlin and his podcast Hardcore History. If you've been a consistent follower of Carlin and have heard every Hardcore History for the past 10 years there is (of course) a lot of overlap and lifting from those shows and research. So not a lot of "new" insights for longtime fans, but a great summary. Excellent way to expose new people to his work. His narration on the audiobook is spot on from the podcast. Loved the philosophical questions it raised. Felt like the middle, with the details of the Germanic/Roman interaction strayed a little from this line of questioning. Loved the inclusion of the nuclear trolley problem.
