Anybody who says Erikson is to bleak should read this book just for the travails of Tehol and Bugg....
Apart from that its another tragic epos of unrivalled quality. Malazan book of the fallen is the crown jewel in the full treasury of epic fantasy.

It was weird going into an entirely new timeline and a different set of people's stories, but after general weirdness it turned out really well. It introduced two characters which quickly became some of my favorite in the series in Tehol Beddict and Bugg. It also gave some story to Trull Sengar who was introduced the previous book. All in all a worthwhile addition to the series.
