Pretty awesome on the re-read. It's been about 14 years since I began my first Malazan adventure and I can honestly say there are so many memorable scenes from this first installment that immediately transported me to a fantasy world that I could only have dreamed the genre could be so detailed and well written. in short this was the first 'Good' fantasy story I ever read. One of the best books I've ever read. The complexity can be a bit daunting, but the richness and excitement of the story is in a league of its own. I also like the way the author gives you multiple points of view from different characters, much like George R. R. Martin in ASoIaF, but on a much larger scale. I can't wait to get deeper into this EPIC tale.

Gardens of the Moon is a perfect example of Epic Fantasy! Steven Erickson defines a new kind of fantasy within these pages. This is not a book for first time fantasy readers and definitely takes PATIENCE! This is a book for those fantasy readers who are tired of all the Tolkien copycat series. how does this book only have a 3.82 rating??? I have read the malazan series a number of times and can not understand how people can give the books low reviews than cry greatness for the likes of mistborn, which is a good series but reader is spoon fed everything, and in all honestly its a YA or teenagers book, seriously irks me
