One Second After is a book that hits the reset button. An EMP has devastated America, all the technology that we take for granted has become completely useless. It’s difficult to imagine what life would be like in this scenario. No more cell phones, no more computers, no more McDonald’s greasy hamburgers. Do any of us have the skill sets necessary to survive?

Forstchen has painted a vivid picture of what this life could be like: the problems that our society would face, how we might work together

This might be one of the scariest books, at least in the top five, that I have ever read. And it also contains one of the few battle scenes that have made me sob. I read a lot of fantasy and that means a lot of battles, but I rarely sob at battles. Usually battles bore me. Everyone should read this, heck even the government wants you to (don't take that as a deterrent, there is good reason)and for other left wingers like me, don't let Newt being the guy who wrote the forward trick you into think ...more

This is a well written book but it just has nothing different than the many other stories of an EMP event. The characters were very vanilla and I did not finish it but got about half way through.

This is a simple story of what could/would happen if America falls victim to an EMP attack.

There isn't any plot twists, mysteries, or cliff hangars - it's a down and dirty look at how people can react to a long term survival situation. However, the reason I gave it three instead of four stars is throughout the book, instead of asking myself

Okay, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who noticed the of/have issue.

A bit too much war/political/historical chat.

I don't know. It just wasn't well written. However, the plot really drew me in. Made me cry. 3 times.

Oh. And WAY too much language. As in poorly used, unnecessary cursing that made me cringe.

As close to reality as you can get while still in the realm of fiction, fiction until it happens to us. This is a excellent book. Its well written, harsh and honest, a serious wake up call.

Not a bad post-apocalyptic story, but way too much "message," overall flat characters and plenty of cliche to go around. ...more
