Re-reading some zombie stories to get back into reading again. And remember liking this one the first time I read it.
The setting in the book reminded me of a hidden world kept safe from history and temptation by the church. They are full of secrets, and unwelcome visitors to the area are dealt with swiftly and quietly. I like following Mary around the forest as she attempts to find safety in a world full of zombies.

I find it SO ironic that the most deep, thoughtful messages about life, love, hope, and courage are to be found in post apocalyptic zombie fiction---particularly in books written for Young Adults (at 32, I'm labeling myself a late Young Adult). Carrie Ryan has a fantastic narrative voice and she really makes you feel for Mary as she struggles to survive and find her way to the ocean of the stories that her mother raised her on. I look forward to reading the rest of this series!

Really good - for a YA romancy novel (I didn't read the description and reviews first.) Probably not for hard core zombie/ adventure / survivalist types but well written and it surprisingly kept my interest.

Loved this book! it has all my favourite elements, zombies, love, adventure.. totally amazing.. kind of reminded me of my favourite book uprooted.. LOVED IT!
