I think that everyone’s reading is influenced early on by the people in our lives. Parents, teachers, friends, they all tend to point us in certain directions for our reading. My influencing factors pointed me in directions other than Vonnegut. But I’ve heard his name come up frequently over the past few years, so it seemed to be about time to give him a shot. No one writes like Vonnegut. He pokes fun at all mankind and the trouble our "big brains" get us into. This book is about the seemingly random events that lead up to the end of humanity as we know it, with a look 1 million years into the future to see what we become. You can't take yourself too seriously when you read this book, as he turns things upside down. Great fun!

Written with typical Vonnegut esprit, Galapagos is an entertaining read. Vonnegut keeps no secrets, through the entire book, as to the sequence of events portrayed. However, the knowledge of impending events does nothing to ruin the book and everything to heighten suspense. The most fulfilling parts in this book are not in the sequence of events, but in the absurd fashion with which said events are reached and in the almost let-down quality of some of the major events when they do eventually occ
