Another awesome installment. Love this series. One of my top 3 favorite zombie series.

Unfortunately many of the other reviews are right. Unless you read the last one right before this book, or have a ultra human memory getting into the story is confusing. It took me a while to figure out who was who and what their background stories were. I think I was on chapter 10 or 11 before I could keep them straight. I feel like he needs to start these books with a "previously on The Remaining:..." recap j ...more

One more in the Lee Harden saga......

If you haven't read this series from the beginning, go back and start, it's worth it. There are tons of end-of-the-world-due-to-contagion series, this, and the Arisen by Michael Stephen Fuchs are my favorites, and I've tried quite a few of them. By book five, we've seen Capt. I've been waiting for this latest installment of THE REMAINING for almost a year and I can only say I was disappointed yet I loved it! Go figure. Lee Harden is back, picking up the pieces of Camp Ryder after Jerry's death. Trials for the remaining traitors are swift although Lee has refused to take part in them. Recovering both mentally and physically from the betrayal and attempts to kill him Lee is aware of how tenuous their existence is, especially since Jacob Crane, the microbiologist had in I've been waiting for this latest installment of THE REMAINING for almost a year and I can only say I was disappointed yet I loved it! Go figure. Lee Harden is back, picking up the pieces of Camp Ryder after Jerry's death. Trials for the remaining traitors are swift although Lee has refused to take part in them. Recovering both mentally and physically from the betrayal and attempts to kill him Lee is aware of how tenuous their existence is, especially since Jacob Crane, the microbiologist had informed him of the hordes of infected headed their way. Having sent out scouts, he must also meet with someone who could very well collect the bounty on his head or help him on his original mission; Project Hometown, to help the remaining population recover from the disaster that affected the country and the world. I was disappointed because there is so much going on, flipping back and forth between several characters and events then back to him. Then there are other characters that were alluded to briefly in book 3&4. If you have not read the two novella's FAITH AND TRUST. I suggest they be read before this one.
The action sequences are brutal and palpable as they fight for survival against the hordes and the Hunters. And even the ridiculousness of fighting among themselves while danger surrounds them is as close to reality as to what will happen when you get a group of desperate people together.
And we get more tidbits about Lee 's past. But it is rushed and kind of thrown together. Some times there is to much information, to many scenarios that could have been given more attention in a separate book makes it a bit choppy. But all the same, enjoy this latest installment how D.J. Molles has portrayed Capt. Lee Harden. He has given us a character that is hero that doesn't know he is one. He is simply a man that has a job to do, a man that will do what must be done to protect those he has sworn to keep safe. He is the face of strength in a world that has gone horribly wrong. He continues, he perseveres and fights because that is what he does, that is what he knows... that is who he is.
It is what has made this series so genuine. Yeah, I really, really like it!! ...more

This author is a really good writer. You can feel yourself there in the character's body, his environment, his emotions. D.J. Molles may be the best action writer I have found so far. This series is full of action, emotion, fear, with zombies in the background and other people in the apocalypse being the real fear. Well, the zombies do start to take on a huge role as a pressure for these people to form alliances but to do that you have to trust. Or do you? Maybe you just need to be allies, which ...more
