I love the title of the book taken from Macbeth. The following lines from Macbeth really are the crux of Faulkner's characters' fates.
"Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing."

This is the tale of the fall and fall of the former aristocratic family of Compsons as we follow the (mis)fortunes of four of its members.

When I first started reading this book I didn't think I'd like it. It was confusing with the stream of consciousness style. However, after getting into Benjy's part, I really enjoyed the book. I ended up writing my research paper for my gender and modernism class on Caddy's role as a mother in the novel. This book might be difficult to read but it's worth it. ...more
