There are certainly the standard bits of silliness, but I did find some of the bits interesting. Dionysus misses the lost poets, and so goes with his servant Xanthias down to Hades to seek them. There is a clever interchange between Heracles and Dionysus about how to get to hell (hanging is too stifling, Hemlock is too cold plus your shins go numb, jumping from a tower would lose the brain, but sailing across a lake sounds fine). There are many reasons why this drama is great after twenty-four centuries. The reasons are a subject matter that fills entire lectures and it’s too vast to synthesize in a paragraph or two.
