I can only imagine how difficult it would be to follow Station Eleven with an equally amazing book so I'll be easy on Mandel.
This is a simple story made overly complex in an effort to have everyone's lives overlap. Mandel has shown that each character's actions are the result of the actions of someone else. I need to add more shelves--I don't have any that fit this book. I really loved it--Mandel is a wonderful writer. She takes all these varying narrative strands and weaves them together so beautifully. They seem so disparate at first, but she gradually pulls them together until they form a seamless pattern and it all makes sense. Highly recommended! ...more

A dreamy like quality to the story that examines a ponzi scheme and the responsibility of the players surrounding the crime. A well drawn character in Vincent and the enigma of her disappearance builds the suspense and there are ghosts that add to that suspense . The supernatural works in this case. There are a few too many peripheral characters like the lead singer of a band that seemingly fail to add resolution to the overall scheme. Note: a title that made the best of 2020 circuit.

Audio. 2x just to make sure I really understood the story clearly. It was very well written but it just didn’t grab me as it has so many others. I felt the characters lacked enough depth for me to care about them.

Different. Non-linear without a single main character, but I thought it was compelling, well-written.
