This is my first Emily St John Mandel, and not exactly what I was expecting. It was a slow start and the timing jumps around a lot, so that it was difficult to work out what was happening when, although the chapters are dated.

It did pick up a bit about halfway through, but the ending was rather odd and, overall, I think I’d have to say that I wasn’t really a fan.

I had read Station Eleven and enjoyed it enough to read another book by Mandel. I really never connected to any of the characters. The most focus is on Vincent - a bartender turned trophy wife turned cook. At least Vincent was able to adapt to her surroundings. I found it interesting that she was able to vanish so easily at several points in her life. The other story lines while you may have been able to find out what happened I really didn't feel much closure with the stories. I am writing this ...more
