This book was like a balm for my soul. I had wanted to read it for some time but based on some reviews thought it might be too depressing with the mention of death. I decided to read it for my book club and am so glad I did. The story was so relatable that I found it comforting and after going months without being able to sit and read, the fact that I finished it in two days speaks for itself.

It wa stone difference between dead and dying. Being dead was a thing and not a horrible thing because it was finished and if you believed in God, and I did, then you were probably in a better place. But dying was a terribly human process and could, I knew, be full of pain and suffering and great fear and because I didn't want to think about it I felt like grabbing Jake and shaking all those awful thoughts out of his head.

I did like this, but I liked Krueger's "This Tender Land" more. I felt like I have read this story before (I read quite a few books), so it seemed repetitive. However, it was still a beautiful story on faith and family and loss and hope. It covered a lot of topics/themes. Racism, suicide, love, forgiveness, friendship, family..... Overall a good book. I did the audio version which was good too.
