I simply loved this book. Krueger does a fabulous job of describing the small town in Minnesota and a particularly rough summer for the main character's family. The writing is lyrical and I took my time reading it. Frank is a great 14-year-old narrator. Highly recommended.

A series of deaths occur in the small town of New Bremen during the summer of 1961, leaving impressionable young Frank forever changed. Krueger absolutely nails the setting of this point in time with his gorgeous descriptions and viewpoint of a 13 year old. I could almost feel the dust grit in my teeth of those country roads and smell the earthy damp of the river bank.
