The Housekeeper + The Professor by Yoko Ogawa is a heart-warming story about a housekeeper, a professor and the housekeeper’s ten year old son but also and most importantly a story about what it means to live in the present, and about friendships, family and respect and a little Math thrown in for good measure.

What a wonderful and touching story, loved the realness of the characters, and how they found a common ground in the love for a young boy. Baseball and mathematics play a large part but it also explores what friendship really means and the acceptance of people that are different. Wonderfully poignant story.

A beautiful story of people coming together and needing each other. I thought this was a thoughtful and well written story. I was drawn into the sadness that was the Professor and the wonderful caring of the Housekeeper. A book that was sad and heartlifting all at the same time.

This book was different than what I expected but I really enjoyed it. This book involves math and I found something pure and unique about that. I enjoyed this book very much.

I gave it five stars because I thought the characters of the story were extremely well developed, the story flows beautifully mixing concepts as diverse as mathematics, baseball and brain damage. Personally coming from a scientific background I found the idea extremely original. The book is all about relationships, it is character driven and it touches you in many different ways. Not as much depth as I would have liked...it was a light good hearted read...but could have been so much better with more in depth character development.
