I thought the author did an excellent job conveying the experience of a young immigrant from Hong Kong who comes to Brooklyn with her mother after her father dies, and is at the mercy of her mother's older sister. At first they believe the older sister is being kind by finding them housing and giving them work, but later discovers that she has put them in an uninhabitable apartment and is paying them extremely low wages illegally. I loved the perspective in this book. The writing and the characters kept me interetested throughout the book.
