What Members Thought
Still Alice by Lisa Genova is a beautifully written, heartbreaking novel about the devastating affect Alzheimer's has on its victims and their families.
I wanted to read this novel for a long time and had nominated it at local book club but now after reading it I am glad it was never chosen as I really think this is a book you personally choose to read because of the difficult subject matter, and the fact that so many people have family members who suffer from Alzheimer's may find this a very dif ...more

My cousin recommended this book to me as our 61-year-old aunt has early-onset Alzheimer's. For me, it was so helpful (and frightening) to experience the perspective of Alice herself, the one actually experiencing the disease. I agree with Genova that having this perspective was worth the sacrifice of the thoughts and feelings of Alice's family, as well as the lack of clarity towards the end when Alice's condition has very much deteriorated.

Still Alice, is a hard book to get through. It is a novel but reads like a memoir. The author is a psychologist. Her research is through. I had a hard time reading, and finishing the novel. But, I could not stop. Possibly, because it is so close to my heart. I am in the medical field and this book was perfect for someone that is in the field or for a support group. I can't see our book club discussing this novel. It hits too close to home and very personal.
