I have to be honest I was kind of putting off reading this book because I thought it would be really really sad. I was wrong, the subject matter early onset Alzheimer's is of course very sad. When Alice is diagnosed at the age of 50 it turns her whole family upside down. I loved the character Lydia. Alice's youngest daughter and the journey they go on together as their roles change parent to child, child to parent. A beautifully sorrowful, yet somewhat uplifting tale of what it's really like to be inside the body and mind of someone living with Alzheimer's disease.

I nurse people living with this terrible disease for a living - I thought I knew the illness back to front. But this book challenged me to think outside the box. I didn't think the writing was all that good. It felt more clinical than a story. I also didn't find the timeline all that believable, as far as, the progression of the disease. It did give me some insight into what people who suffer from Alzheimer's go through, however, I have no concept of the balance or ratio to her times of lucidity.
