I think this book started out good, but then with the author adding way too many characters and with the last third of the book dragging, it lost at least one star in rating. I believe that this is the authors first 'adult' book - she has been a YA author - and the book tended to note that. I am thinking she will get better as she goes, unless she resorts to writing more YA than adult material.

“Some people will never believe you no matter how hard you explain yourself. Trust me, there's no pleasing people. If they're determined to think the worst of you, they will.”

Lucy's best friend Savvy was killed years ago and Lucy, found covered in Savvy's blood, was believed to have done it. However, Lucy remembers almost nothing from that night and there was never enough evidence to convict. Now, years later, Ben Owens of the "Listen for the Lie" podcast is determined to solve this cold case.

Audio. 3.5 ⭐️ I’m a crime podcast junkie and murder mystery book fan.

Put those together for a clever book. I liked it.

I’d go to 4 but…. It wasn’t very riveting.

Everyone in Plumbton, TX thinks that Lucy murdered her best friend, Savannah - even Lucy herself.

She has no memory of the murder 5 years ago due to the blunt-force head injury she received that night and, since Plumbton apparently has no police force, Lucy simply assumed that she killed Savvy and moved far away.

It isn't until Ben, the famous podcast host, shows up in Plumbton that people start to recall the events of that night. Everyone keen on their 7 minutes of fame, they each reveal their da

I liked the podcast format. I really liked Lucy’s sarcasm and snark when it came to people assuming her guilt. Sometimes I thought there were too many people to keep up with which was annoying. Also TW for spousal abuse and most men in this book being jerks.

I loved Listen for the Lie. If you read rather than listen to books. You must follow along while listening to audio. It’s one of the best ways to read it. The story is mixed it with solving a crime through a podcast investigation. I throughly enjoyed, and engaged with listening and reading. I can visualize it like I was there. I recommend reading and listening. I have a difficult time listening to audio as I easily get distracted. I found if you do both. But, you have to test the speed. For me i ...more

An okay story. Unique way to tell a story through a podcast.

LOTS of twists and surprises in this one. As a true-crime podcast fan, I thoroughly enjoyed the format. A suspenseful, gripping page-turner. 4.5 stars
