I'm not sure what I could possibly say that hasn't already been said by countless people who have read and loved this book about a man , courageous beyond words , by an author who captures his heart and mind and the harshest realities of his imprisonment by the Japanese in WW II .

An extraordinary story of an extraordinary life. So hard to believe it is true and that one human could survive all of this and come out as a true survivor. I was so impressed with the historical facts that Hillenbrand brought to this book...and amazed at the cruelty of War, the part that is not often spoken about. This is a story full of heroes, not just Louie but the men he served with as well as their families. The title describes this perfectly...and the story took my breath away. My daily
