I liked this one. I thought Anthony Horowitz attempt at writing Sherlock Holmes novels was fairly successful. He kept the general feel of both Watson and Holmes in tact. I loved that because it felt familiar...like visiting a friend I haven't seen in a long while.

I liked the story line. It zigged and zagged as expected. And the ending tied up all the many loose threads. The plot was creatively thought out, but some of this was predictable. That is always a let down of sorts but I loved

I can see why the Doyle Estate authorized this edition to the Holmes cannon. I felt that Horowitz did a good job of keeping the character of Watson and Holmes alive and true. The escapade they meet in this edition is a troubling one. Can't wait to read Moriarty. ...more

Loved the narrator (Derek Jacobi). But there were times when I just wasn't following the story, and I didn't care enough to re-wind and try to figure out what I had missed. This was Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, so the characters were quite familiar. Yet the story seemed to be just layer upon layer of coincidence (and red herrings), and a completely disjointed mystery/crime arc. As a fan of all things Holmes, I was somewhat sceptical of this spinoff. However, being a fan of anthony Horowitz, I decided to brave it, and I'm glad I did. Anthony brings to sherlock holmes things that are for a more modern audience. I tip my hat to him for creating a hardcore sherlock holmes story. ...more
