"It's all we are in the end. Our stories.”
Wagamese has an amazing ability to address profound issues through a somewhat simple story. In this one, the basic story is that of 16 year old Franklin Starlight who steps up, out of a sense of familial duty, to take his estranged father to his final burial place. Can I give it more than five stars? It might just be one of my all-time favorite books. I loved everything about this book: the story line, the characters, the stories within the story, etc. It was a bit hard to read at times, because they were difficult stories, but they expressed the truth of Native Canadian life. I highly recommend it.

This is only the second book by this author that I have read and I can already say that he has become one my favorites. I love his writing....his stories, his style, his wording, his characters and his messages. Wow. He has a way of getting my attention quickly.

I liked this book. It was almost 5 stars for me....really close. He paints a total picture. And one of my favorite narrators (Tom Stechschulte), narrated the audio.
