What Members Thought

This is a very difficult book to read. And I'm talking about the subject matter. In the 1980's a young lawyer heads to Atlanta then to Alabama to help the deathrow inmates. Bryan Stevenson tells of the injustice, lies and deceit of several cases he covered. I have to admit that I wanted to come through the pages and throttle several people. Heartbreaking and also uplifting. We need more people in this world like the author.

Wow. What a read. A must-read. A real eye opener. So good and needed to be written. Bryan Stevenson has done this book justice itself.

This book was between 4 and 5 stars for me. But it got me all riled up...so I upped my rating to a full 5 stars. I appreciated the voice of the author in this. I liked how he told his stories without holding the readers hand.
I guess the two questions that go unanswered in my mind are: 1. why become a police officer if you are going to be selective on who you help and who you railroad. 2. why become a lawyer and not show up, literally and figuratively.

This book is a must read to those interested in the justice system. It is so well written and eye-opening and is a terribly sad reflection of our criminal justice system. The stories are heart wrenching and hard to swallow, especially when you come to realize that justice for some is NOT blind. I am so thankful that warriors such as Bryan Stevenson fight the good fight every day.
