Wonderful title, gorgeous book cover. Long time members may remember my comments calling this authors past book, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake the silly lemon cake book. This is her first book in ten years and I'm surprised at how much it resonated.

Had this not been Aimee Bender I'm not sure I would have finished it. There was just enough emotional resonance and moody writing to keep me coming back. I applaud her courage in writing from the perspective of a young woman who feels crazy and disconnected and outsideoring. of how other people exist. It isn't easy and it isn't always pretty.

The Butterfly Lampshade is about a mother with a mental illness, psychosis, and a daughter trying to decipher her past and work through her present. We begin by seeing the extent of Francie’s mother illness and the facts of what happened next. However as we get further into the story Francie recalls these memories and gives them more details and context.
