This is Historical Fiction centered around the WPAs Pack Librarian project set in Kentucky among the poor hill people. I liked that this story was more about the people with just a little light centered on the Library program. I liked the story line. There were some interesting twists that kept me tethered top the audio (which had a great narrator). And I loved the MC, especially Margery. They were both strong characters that were well drawn. JoJo Moyes has given us another heartfelt book. The Giver of Stars is a wonderful story about the women who rode on horseback to deliver books called, The Traveling Library. As our country was recovering from the recent great depression, the WPA (The Works Progress Administration) instituted mobile libraries. These mobile libraries reached far-flung communities which had little if any access to public libraries.

Hum. This was ok, but I didn’t fall in love with it. While I love reading historical fiction and especially that which is based in Kentucky and in Appalachia, I found the historical focus on the packhorse librarians lacking. The focus was more on settling up very dramatic characters and situations that, in my opinion, detracted from the historical fiction this book is labeled.
