Another great book set in the Southern states. We follow a young girl whose dysfunctional family lead her to an unusual childhood - don't want to give anything away.

A wonderful book with poetic writing which gave me a clear picture of the North Carolina marshlands, waterways, birds and sea life. This book with it’s mystery intertwined in the story left me feeling everything from fear, abandonment, heartbreak, loneliness, love, rejection, trust and so much more. But most of all it conveyed Kya’s, the main characters, love for the nature surrounding her that taught her, embraced her and brought her comfort.
Wow! It really lives up to the hype! It is a compelling story that is beautifully written. I usually stay away from best sellers because most of them are so disappointing, but I am so glad I succumbed in this case. I loved it, I couldn't put it down, it brought me close to tears at times - what more could I ask for?

I was so impressed with this book. The writing, the story. It goes back and forth between the past and the present seamlessly. I could identify with many aspects of this story. When I finished I just wanted to sit with it and absorb. I see now why so many people like it.
I listened to the Audible version early in the year, while training for my Camino. Saw the (wonderful) movie this year, too! A wonderful book!
