One of my favorites of 2020. The writing is just beautiful.

I love books and movies about space and the colder desolate places on earth so obviously this one was a natural for me. From the first page I could see it as a movie, see the actors and the landscape of the arctic, and how Jupiter and it's moons were described. Beautiful job by the author. And the ending was just perfect in my opinion, especially with Augustine. I'll be thinking about this book for a long time.

She wanted to remember how it felt to be held by Earth: dirt and rocks and grass cradling the soles of her feet.

I think I am in the minority for this book. I have read so many reviews that have said this was a beautiful book. It was good. I liked the surprises (which I had figured out well ahead of time). I liked the connections. I liked the questions it raises. I just didn't feel fulfilled, if that makes any sense.
3-3.5 stars. I would still say read it though, because a lot of people really like it. ...more

He discovers a young girl who was apparently left behind as well. At the same time, the space mission on the Aether, a mission to Jupiter and its moons, is on its way back to Earth and has ...more

Make no mistake, Lily Brooks-Dalton writes fabulous prose and does an excellent job of crafting fully developed characters, so don't be turned off because for me it was only 3 stars. This has nothing to do with the quality of her writing and everything to do with when this novel showed up in my personal timeline.
