A lot of work to read, but well worth the effort expended. Eliot’s writing is so clever and insightful and I found this to be a really great balance of memorable character writing and tongue-in-cheek narration. The many overlapping stories of marriage and what it means and why we do it, as well as Dorothea’s quest to be saintly in a world inhospitable to saints, provided a lot of food for thought and I will definitely be chewing on this book for a long time.
