This was a very sweet book - I always love the idea of “books about books” - sometimes they work out well, sometimes not - this one did. My literary tastes do differ from those of the main character, a bookstore owner, so while I have read and enjoyed some of the books mentioned, there are many that I haven’t and probably wouldn’t ever read.

Not surprising, I am going to be in the minority with my opinion of this book. True, the setting was charming, an independent bookstore in a small New England community. The characters were generally quite likable. But, it takes more than a quaint setting and likable characters to create a good book. The plot was hackneyed. The characters were poorly developed. This was the perfect little novel to read while coming down from the Thanksgiving high. There's nothing super original, but if you're looking for a sweet story that you can almost certainly predict the ending to, then you will not be disappointed. In fact, I would have rated this an entire star higher, if not for the dialogue, which tried way too hard to be witty, and the ending, which made me roll my eyes.

this was a wonderful reminder of how books are so very very important in our lives. I admit it I have a crush on "my love of book"books. I read them all. I get absorbed..and this was no exception. One sitting, one stay up past my bedtime reading, and now I am dragging this morning..but with a lighter soul for having read this. I am glad I gave Ms. Zevin another chance!

4.5 Stars. A wonderful story full of literary references and tidbits. The characters were varied and interesting and I found myself loving certain characters and hating others for obvious and valid reasons. I will definitely recommend this and I'm so glad I read it!

3.5/5
The prose is really beautiful and the characters are compelling, but something about the overall tone and the plot I just didn't connect with. ...more
