Let me preface this by saying that I read a lot.

That's not showing off. I work in a library, so it more or less comes with the territory. I'm tempted daily, and I also frequently get asked for recommendations. I'm about the only one interested in the 'science-fiction' section, where all sci-fi, speculative, and fantasy tends to get dumped. I regularly have too many books on the go. I don't buy books unless they really stick with me, because...well, I work in a library, why should I?

This was amazing. It took a little while to get into it, because it requires non-linear thought to go with the flow of the different stories, but this book starts off with gripping, compelling character events and just gets better from there. Jemisin has done a spectacular job of creating a compelling, interesting, multilayered world and story, and as a jaded sci-fi/fantasy reader it was really referring to read something so utterly unlike anything else I've read.
