It was great fun to revisit d'Artagnan and his companions over the last few weeks. The novel is a delightful adventure through early 17th century France. It is not exactly a deep novel in terms of characterizations and psychology, but the blend of fiction and history created by Dumas certainly pulled me into the story. I finished this in record time but not because I was loving it but because I was so keen to finish to get on to my other books. I probably am not doing Dumas justice but I simply couldn't get into this one. I found the characters shallow. Maybe because I am reading books at the same time where the characters are noble and so in comparison, the Musketeers seem farcical. There were odd moments where brilliance shone through but not enough to hold my attention at this time.
