Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars
Ok so this is one of those weird situations where both a 3 & a 4 Star Rating doesn’t really feel like it does my opinion justice but since Goodreads is clinging to its own mediocrity I’m going to round down.
First 1/3 was boring as hell, probably a 2 Stars, second 1/3 was great & definitely a 4 Stars, last 1/3 meanders a bit but ultimately reaches a satisfying 3 Star conclusion so that’s my breakdown.

What. A. Disappointment.
Just why do people think this is the "IT" book? What is the appeal? It's not even really good writing.
It's a thriller that not's thrilling. (An interesting choice not to put any tension in a thriller.) A thriller needs thrills, tension, or menace - the best have all three.
The "Gone Girl" should've stayed gone. I'd even have preferred if (view spoiler) . Amy is spoiled and - quite probably - a sociopath. She is eve ...more

Nick & Amy.
Two young aspiring writers who managed to find each other and who fell in love during warm summer nights, silly weekend trips and who bonded over all the whimsy and fun that NY offered them. Fast forward to their five year wedding anniversary and Nick is a mess and Amy nowhere to be found…

Well, that was a bit of a mindfuq.
I was actually pretty impressed. Flynn has a nice style of suspense and drama. She takes a basket of characters I would hate in real life, and makes their story compelling. I wouldn't say she makes them likable, but the reader (or listener) can't help but cheer them on.
Twists and turns aplenty, and though some of it is a bit far fetched, the writing makes up for it. I'll definitely be interested in reading other Flynn books.

This is one of those books, when someone says that your main characters have to be likeable for it to be a good story, that you can hold up and say, that is simply not true. This is a well written book. There were a few times in the course of reading this book that I didn't think I was in the mood for it, but I would pick it up and read one paragraph and instantly would be sucked back in. The book almost reads like a movie. I am not going to say too much because that would spoil this twisty-turn

Beach read (if you can call reading at a Cancun resort the beach). Quick, intense, sort of depressing, will definitely keep you guessing and play with your emotions. Thank you anonymous person who left the book at the hotel library!
