I always love diving into a new fleshed out well written fantasy world and this was no different.
The story follows a young bastard of royal lineage as he grows up and the many hardships he has to endure and is basically like a long training montage (as many first books in a long fantasy stories are).
I liked the main characters but sometimes I felt like I didn't understand why they acted the way they did (like why Fitz so quickly came to care for Chade but was always really hard towards Burrich ...more

By the end of this first book, I'm mainly feeling intrigued. I still don't understand the magic system, but I'm very interested to continue reading to find out more. The characters are only somewhat engaging; the lack of warm, trusting relationships definitely hindered my ability to enjoy them, at times. My favorite thigns: T=the world building, wars, insights into humanity, Fitz missions, and hjinks, such as Chade dressing as Lady Thyme. I didn't predict the plot, early on, though perhaps I sho

This has been on my to read shelf for quite some time. Not sure why I haven't gotten along to it but at least I finally did. It was great! Read, enjoy and don't wait like I did.

I had heard a lot of great things. I was really disappointed. I enjoyed parts of it. The beginning was good but then the majority of the middle parts were sluggish to get through. And the end, while better than the middle, was still a struggle to get through because I was just ready to be done with the book. Whether I venture to read books 2 and 3 is up in the air at this point.
