Holy gods, this book was off the spectrum! I am sitting here practically in a stupor of complete awe right now. This book absolutely blew me away.

This is a new author for me and just, wow. I can't believe that this is a debut title. The writing is impeccable and polished and the author's writing style draws the reader in. The plot of this story is beautifully and masterfully constructed. The foreshadowing is great. There are so many elements in this story that have only been touched upon but I a Holy gods, this book was off the spectrum! I am sitting here practically in a stupor of complete awe right now. This book absolutely blew me away.

This is a new author for me and just, wow. I can't believe that this is a debut title. The writing is impeccable and polished and the author's writing style draws the reader in. The plot of this story is beautifully and masterfully constructed. The foreshadowing is great. There are so many elements in this story that have only been touched upon but I am so eager to learn more about them. There is definitely a web building that is going to blow my mind when I read the final book. The world-building is so vast but never intimidating. The author delivers snippets about this world in ways that aren't overwhelming. This book is extremely long but almost doesn't feel that way because the story's pacing is steady and the plot keeps the reader engaged.

These characters are so relatable. I found myself falling into their shoes with ease. I appreciated that the characters in this book were not younglings. Most of the main characters are in their thirties and the female lead character has a teenage child. It was very refreshing to read about older protagonists with adult problems. The character development was great. I loved all of the secondary characters. They all stood out with unique personalities. There were some interesting dynamics between the characters.

The romance takes up a good portion of the story. Even though the world-building is strong and not totally overshadowed by the romance, the romance is still a major theme. This book boasts a very emotional second chance story. I was really moved by the strong love connection that Reinier and Emma share. Talking too much about the romance would delve too deeply into spoiler territory so I will keep my thoughts brief. Reinier and Emma's love story is packed with complex history and a lot of tragedy and grief. There is a lot of drama involved. All that aside, Reinier and Emma's chemistry is off the charts.

Overall, this is a unique and creative fantasy story packed with emotion and intrigue. This book is going on my Top Reads of 2024 list without a doubt. I am almost glad that I waited so long to read this because the second book is already out and the third book releases next month. The book hangover would have been debilitating for this book. That cliffhanger was brutal. As soon as I finished this book, I immediately hopped onto Audible and purchased the second book. Jess Wisecup has crafted an exceptional fantasy story with a distinct world and memorable characters. If romantasy is your jam you should pick this one up!
