Yes, Heir of Fire is still my second favorite book in the entire series.

This was the book where Maas really! started moving the pieces around to established the overall arc for the rest of the series. This was very much a Celaena-centric novel that worked to develop her character and turn her into the person she needed to be. Huge improvement. Huge. I really felt like we are finally moving in Aelin's development. Rowan and the witches were a much needed addition. I realize most of this book is transitional development for the series, but it went a long way to show me this author has grown. I could read Manon POV for an entire series. Massive potential there. I have no idea how Sarah does it, but it just seems to me that each book she writes for this series gets better and better. I don't think I can hold out until the next book is released! As of now, I can honestly say that the Throne of Glass series is my favourite series of all time. I love the world building and her characters and everything about her books are so loveable. My problem with lots of books is that the author fails to keep our attention all the way throughout, but it seems Sarah J. I have no idea how Sarah does it, but it just seems to me that each book she writes for this series gets better and better. I don't think I can hold out until the next book is released! As of now, I can honestly say that the Throne of Glass series is my favourite series of all time. I love the world building and her characters and everything about her books are so loveable. My problem with lots of books is that the author fails to keep our attention all the way throughout, but it seems Sarah J. has no problem with this as there is never a dull moment for me reading her books.

With Heir of Fire, the thing I particularly enjoyed was the distance that was placed between Chaol and Celaena. Although I am still a strong advocate for the relationship of the two, I loved how Sarah focused a lot on Celaena's character development in this book, mostly because of the huge cliffhanger she left us with in Crown of Midnight. Seeing Celaena's fae heritage and learning more and more about her past just made her become an even more loveable character. Celaena is flawed but she is glorious to say the least.

And can we talk about these new characters? These new characters are just the best. I think we need to bow down to Sarah for this one. Rowan for a start, is at the moment my favourite main male character in the Throne of Glass series. I love the great dynamics and friendship that developed between Celaena and Rowan as the book progressed, showing development from both of the characters. And the sass was strong. I approve of the sass. It brings me joy for Celaena to have a great friendship especially after the harsh losses she's already endured.

I recently went to a book signing with Sarah J. Maas and I overheard her saying that Manon was her favourite character in Heir of Fire, and how she had fought so hard to keep her included in the book as everyone thought that Manon could have been easily cut from the book and saved Sarah lots of work and cut her word count, but I'm just so glad she fought for Manon because Manon is also my new favourite character.

The thing I love about Manon is the insight we get into the world of the Ironteeth Witches. Obviously since these witches have been introduced you are just aware of who they are and how dangerous they are, especially after Celaena killed Baba Yellowlegs and barely escaped. Yet Manon allowed us to see the potential of the Ironteeth Witches playing a more crucial role in the uprising, and I can seriously see the foreshadowing here of Manon and her Thirteen playing a role in Aelin taking back Terrasen - even though she is currently fighting for the king of Adarlan. It just seemed so obvious to me that Manon is a character who although has been trained to be ruthless, is starting to see rights from wrong more often. She obviously noticed something wrong with the blood and the meat around them. Even though Manon has multiple evil and common devilish, unforgiving traits of the Ironteeth Witches, you can't help but love and admire her for quite a few things.

I usually do not write reviews this long, mostly out of laziness or just lack of love for the book overall, but this book was too good to not write a review for and there is just so much I'd love to discuss with others. I guess this long review can be an indication and proof of my love for Sarah J. Maas and her books. ...more

So far this is the most interesting installment and you can tell her writing has improved tremendously. The plot also moves forward in interesting ways (at least in the last 1/4) and seeing her backstory and memories revealed was a long time coming and much appreciated. Though this book could have used a more vicious editor, IMO. Also, so many point of views changing constantly. Really annoying. This was my favourite book on my last read through (and also the last one I got to hehe) and I still think it's the best of the first three.
I really like the way the world opens up and we get to know more about the magic and the fey of the world. I also really like the friendship between Celeana and Rowan, and the first time I read this I remember thinking how great is was to read of a male/female friendship were they didn't secretly lust after each other...
