If I didn’t buy the entire series assuming I’d love it… I definitely would not have continued the series after finishing ToG.
I’m glad I did though. While I still think SJM has a talent for creating insufferable main characters, this one might have grown on me a bit. This book was SO much better than ToG.
Also, if you treat this as a fun turn off your brain to get away from real life kind of book, it does the job, it just took me a bit to get drawn into the story.

Honestly, this is where the series should have started. I am officially disowning throne of glass. This is so much better than that.
And truth be told not a whole lot of stuff from the first book was really even essential to this one. The competition was lame and boring and so why not just start as the kings champion and go from there? Also the characters were done pretty poorly in book one and they are vastly improved in this.

This was a book with action, there was all the time different things happening and the last chapters were so action packed that I was on the edge while reading :D
I really loved the atmosphere! All the surroundings were always described so lividly that I could really live the scenes.
I loved all the mysteries this book contained... and my favorit character was a doorknob, haha.

I'd call this a 3.75. Much improved from the first book, this follow up takes the series in a whole new direction, one that I'm intrigued by. The triangle was tiresome but I do appreciate the character building of the 2 male co-leads. The book leaves off not so much in a cliff but more so a fork in the road, each of the 3 main characters about to embark on their own journeys. Caelana isn't near as petulant as in the first, and I'm hoping the author continues to mature her.
