Not sure why I gave this 3 stars back in 2013? I'm upping it to a good 4 stars. The beginning was slow and it took some time for the plot to really get moving, but the novel did a good job at developing the world-building and touching on points that were left a bit vague in the previous novel. The plot felt more solid this time around, like it had a direction, and worked to set up and establish points that are going to stretch across the other novels.

I remember really really loving this book, didn't love it as much this time but I still enjoyed it. I find Celeana to be a little annoying, mostly in the way that she contradicts herself all the time. And her abilities seem to change all the time as well, like one fight she is amazing and no one can touch her and the next time she gets bested by like one ordinary man. I don't know it just breaks the immersion.

Whoa. I think this is an extremely strong sequel. The characters and setting introduced in book one are chiseled and refined by Maas in such an admirable way that I found myself deeply caring for characters whom I felt completely apathetic toward in book one (*ahem*Dorian*ahem). The plot twists and turns, and even though I guessed a lot, there were many things that surprised me in the end. There's also a very sweet, and very heart breaking romance introduced, and even though watching it unfold h

Brilliant! Loved it.
Plot was great, some things I saw coming but Maas writes in such a way that it was exciting and intriguing anyway. The characters are well written. Celaena is so rash, angry and difficult it made her annoying to read sometimes but, in the end, it makes sense why she is the way she is. I am excited to read the next.

I liked this story, and for parts of it I loved it.
I cannot decide how to write a spoiler free review so I will just not write one.
