Truly, I don’t keep up with an author’s every move to make sure they’re always on their best behavior. Some of the best authors in the business are dreadful people.

But I have to say that Tomi Adeyemi’s recent call out of Nora Roberts on Twitter, accusing this well known & well loved author of capitalizing on her recent bestseller’s fame by copying the title? It’s not a good look. It’s taken the wind out of my sails a bit, and now I am not so excited to read this book. Since I own a copy, I’ll le

I enjoyed well just okChildren of Blood and Bone. It's exciting to read a fantasy book with characters that looks like myself "dark skinned" it was nice to go on a fantasy adventure with Zelie, Tzain, Amari and Inan getting to know them as characters and their world Orisha. World building I liked. Action was on point. At the beginning it was hard to put the book down since every chapter ended on a cliffhanger. Short chapters too which I loved. Middle of book started to lack their mission on savi ...more

I got bored of this book part way through because one of the romances felt really forced and very instalove. Also the travel felt too easy, they kind of hop all over the map. But about the last quarter of the book really picked up the pace and made it so that I absolutely have to read the next book. However the slow middle makes it so that I don't really want to give this a higher rating than a 3.

I Love Amari, but Zelie took a while to grow on me which was annoying since she is the main pov char

4.5. Go be fiercely yourself!
Magic, a connection you share and want to celebrate with others like you. Frequently oppressed by others who are not like you. Thus you live hiding your magic and fearing to be yourself. This is a truth many of us live day in and day out. Differences are dangerous in our world. This book speaks to all who hide their gifts: blacks in a white world, women in a male dominated world, the poor, those not in power. Children of Blood and Bone reminds us we are not alone, v

Powerful writing!

This book is absolutely amazing in its storytelling, in its original mythology, and in its humanity - an epic, magical adventure that should not be missed!

The voices of the characters are so distinct and rich, I feel each one’s pain and joy. Tomi Adeyemi is a truly gifted author.

I can’t wait to experience the next book, and share these stories with my 8th-grade students!
